Music & Dance

Live music on the main stage from local bands, from folk and soul to rock & roll. We even have the odd solo busker playing in the bar and food areas. Live dance events run throughout the day.

Family Entertainment

Science displays from around the Harwell Campus, arts & crafts stalls, and free kids entertainment are all on-tap.

Food & Drink

A selection of food & drink stalls from good solid barbeque up to local artisan food stalls. Cake? Of course. Tea, coffee, and soft drinks for the kids? Check. Beer tent? Yep.

Another Festival?

Why not! Amongst the many clubs at the RAL Recreational Society is a Music Club with a wide variety of different acts on the books, ranging from soloists to cover bands to those exploring their own brand of rock, soul, blues and rockabilly. This forms the basis for the event, and we add in to this dance troupes to entertain inbetween bands, science exhibits from the Harwell Campus, plenty of food and drink options, and a variety of kids entertainment.

RAL MaDFest is organised by members of the RAL Recreational Society with help from others around the Harwell Campus, and is a non-profit-making event. Should any profits arise from the running of the event they will be donated to the RecSoc's nominated charity.

RAL RecSoc

Purpose

The Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Recreational Society (RAL Rec Soc) provides recreational, athletic and social facilities for its members and encourages the formation of clubs for this purpose. Some of the RecSoc's clubs include football, tennis, table tennis, music (of course!), golf, and even a model railway club! Affiliated to the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC), membership of one kind or another is open to all members of STFC staff, whether permanent, on contracts or short term stays, e.g. students, and also affiliated companies on the Harwell Campus.

The RAL Rec Soc is based in R58, the building near the white satellite dish at the back of the main Rutherford Appleton Laboratory site.

Membership

Membership for 2018 costs just £3.95 per month which is paid by direct debit.

Rec-Soc / CSSC Membership includes Corporate Membership of English Heritage which gives unlimited free access to over 280 properties around the country for two adults and up to six children as well as 10% off in the gift and coffee shops.
